Spring Maintenance Checklist for Your Vehicle

Who would've guessed this winter would be a short one? Here at B&R Auto Repair, we're gearing up for race event season and high-performance cars rolling in for routine maintenance checks. We made a spring vehicle maintenance checklist for daily drivers to stay safe and keep moving during work commutes or family trips.

Remember to keep this checklist handy each beginning to start off safely. If your car or truck has mechanical issues beyond this checklist, schedule an appointment with us, and we'll conduct a preventive check after repairs.

Replace Your Windshield Wiper Blades and Top off Fluid

During winter, your wiper blades endure strain from defrosting and scraping ice. Ice buildup can bend, warp, and eventually crack the blades, leading to uneven, streaky windshields. Measure each blade for proper sizing, as there's no one-size-fits-all solution. Replace them using instructions from the package, car manual, or have us assist to ensure clear visibility in rainy conditions.

Tire Rotation and Tire Pressure Check

On average, tire rotation every 5,000 to 7,000 miles ensures even wear distribution. If you notice significant tread wear or louder than average road noise, use a tire tread gauge. A reading below 4/32 indicates less traction on wet roads and could lead to hydroplaning, so it's time for new tires.

Tread depths of 6/32 or deeper warrant continued rotation and tire pressure checks, including the spare. Refer to the manufacturer sticker on the driver's door sill for recommended pressure levels. To accurately measure pressure, purchase a tire pressure gauge from your local auto parts store.

Schedule a Routine Tune-up

A tune-up isn't just about keeping your car running; it's about maximizing its lifespan and performance. If you're noticing signs like poor gas mileage or unusual noises post-winter, it's probably time.

Our comprehensive tune-up covers essential services to keep your vehicle running smoothly. This service includes spark plug replacement, oil change with filter, inspection of the air filter, belt inspection and replacement, topping off fluid levels, and fuel injection cleaning if required. With our thorough tune-up, your vehicle will stay in top shape for the long haul.

Check Your Exterior Lights

Regularly checking your vehicle's exterior lights is crucial for road safety, ensuring visibility and signaling intentions to other drivers. By inspecting lights like brake lights, turn signals, and headlights, you prevent accidents caused by malfunctioning lights. Additionally, maintaining properly functioning exterior lights also helps you avoid potential traffic violations and citations.

Have Your Car Battery Tested

Regular testing of your car battery is crucial for preventing unexpected breakdowns. A battery test helps identify potential issues before they escalate, ensuring your vehicle starts reliably. By proactively monitoring battery health, you can avoid inconvenient situations and maintain peace of mind while on the road.

Belt Inspection

Regular belt inspection is essential for maintaining your vehicle's reliability and safety. Belts play a crucial role in powering various components such as the alternator, water pump, and air conditioning compressor. Squeaky noises can indicate a worn belt, making early detection crucial for preventing unexpected failures and costly repairs.
